Child benefit amounts since 2020: the new system

The amounts of the Brussels new child benefit system apply to all children that have their official adres in Brussels and were born from the 1st of January 2020 onwards.

Your child was born before 2020 and you are still receiving the old amounts?

What does the total amount in the new system consist of?

Your child is entitled to following amounts (valid since November 2023):

Maternity or adoption allowance 
One time allowance at the birth or adoption of a child
€1.314,61 for your first child
In case of multiple births, you receive this amount per child
€597,55 for your second child and following children
Apply for your maternity allowance
Basic amount
A monthly amount for each child
In case of 1 child and no sociale supplement, orphan supplement or the supplement for children suffering from a condition: € 179,27/ month per child (€ 167,32 if born before  2020)

In all the other cases:
0 - 11 years old: €179,27/month per child (€167,32  if born before 2020)
12 - 24 years old: €191,22/month per child (€179,27 if born before 2020)
18 - 24 years old and enlisted in higher education : €203,17/month per child (€191,22 if born before  2020)

If orphan of one parent: basic amount x1,5
If orphan of both parents: basic amount x2

According to your annual gros family income
Annual gros family income ≤ €37.868,01:
0 - 11 years old:
1 child: + €47,80/month
2 children: + €83,66/month per child (increased with + €11,95/month per child in case of a one parent family)
3 children of more: + €131,46/month per child (increaded with + €23,90/month per child in case of a one parent family)

12 - 24 years old:
1 child: + €59,76/month
2 children: + €95,61/month per child (increased with + € 11,95/month per child in case of a one parent family)
3 children of more: + €143,41/month per child (increased with + € 23,90/month per child in case of a one parent family)

Annual family income betweend €37.868,01 and €54.969,69:
0 - 24 years old:
1 child: + €0,00/month
2 children: + €29,88/month per child
3 children of more: + €86,05/month per child

For children who go to a Dutch day care center whose prizes are not related to family income
+ €3,50/per child per day of attendance

Exceptions

If your family already received Brussels' child benefit in December 2019 (for children born before 2020), you keep the amounts of the old system, as long as they're more advantageous than those of the new system.
