Accessibility Statement

Parentia is committed to creating a digital environment that is accessible to everyone, including individuals with visual, auditory, motor, or cognitive impairments. This accessibility statement applies to www.parentia.be and was issued on July 23, 2025.

We aim for full compliance with the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.2 Level AA, as required by European Directive (EU) 2016/2102.

Compliance Status

This website is partially compliant with the WCAG 2.2 Level AA standards. This means that while most functionalities and content are accessible, some areas still require improvement.

Non-Accessible Content

The following components do not yet fully meet the WCAG 2.2 Level AA guidelines:
  • PDF documents: Some older documents are not, or only partially, accessible to screen readers. If you encounter issues, you can contact Parentia for an accessible alternative.
  • Form fields: Not all error messages are clearly explained or automatically brought into focus.
  • Interactive elements: Certain buttons and dropdown menus lack sufficient focus styling or keyboard functionality.
  • Drag-and-drop features: Some drag-and-drop elements (e.g., in simulation tools or forms) do not offer alternatives for users with motor impairments.
  • Images: Some (especially complex) images do not have proper alternative descriptions or text alternatives.
  • Videos: Not all videos are equipped with subtitles or audio descriptions. The video player does not offer options to customize or disable subtitles, and its keyboard shortcuts may be unintentionally triggered by voice commands.
  • Marketing-oriented formats: Printables, brochures, and checklists created for promotional purposes (such as birth lists, growth calendars, and planning tools) are not yet fully compatible with screen readers or mobile assistive technologies.

Accessibility Measures

To enhance digital accessibility, Parentia is taking the following steps:
  • Converting frequently used PDF documents into WCAG 2.2-compliant formats
  • Ongoing training for content managers and developers on WCAG 2.2 and inclusive UX principles
  • Using accessible design components (e.g., adequate contrast, clear error messages, skip links, logical focus order)
  • Modifying interactive elements to ensure usability without a mouse or touch interface
