Growth Package for children born before 2019
For children born before 2019, the old child benefit system will continue to apply in general. The old basic amounts of this system were frozen on 31 December 2018. As long as your children are entitled to child benefit, they will continue to receive the acquired monthly amounts, topped up with age allowances and other supplements.
- Have you moved from abroad and do you have children born before 1 January 2019? Then in Flanders you are entitled to the new amounts of the Growth Package.
- Also children born before 2019, who become an orphan after 1 January 2019, will receive the new Growth Package amounts. The other children of the family born before 2019 will keep the old amounts.
- Since 2019, the rules for granting social supplements under the new system apply. These also apply to all low-income families, and not only in the event of unemployment, disability or single-parent families. This might entitle you to a supplement, whereas before 2019 this was not the case. Some supplements were also introduced for all families. These are the new childcare, pre-schooling and schooling supplements, which are subject to certain conditions. From 2019 onwards, also the rules for granting social supplements under the new system will apply. These will also apply to low-income families, and not only in the event of unemployment, disability or single-parent families. This might entitle you to a supplement, whereas in the past this was not the case. There will also be some supplements for families who already receive child benefit today. These are the new childcare, pre-schooling and schooling supplements, which are subject to certain conditions. (to be adjusted in accordance with previous §)
